Policy Development and Engagement

The current phase of Water Act modernization – engagement and policy development is coloured green.

In December 2010 we released a Policy Proposal on the new Water Sustainability Act [PDF 2.89MB] and received almost 1400 written submissions including 540 comments on the Living Water Smart Blog. Over the summer, Ministry of Environment staff have been reviewing the public input and further refining the proposed policies and assessing implications.

Many British Columbians requested an opportunity to review and comment on the detailed policies and legislation. In response, Government has committed to take more time to further engage with British Columbians on draft legislation before it is finalized.

We’ll be providing more information on our progress and the engagement process in the coming weeks and months. Stay in touch by visiting the Living Water Smart Blog and website. Together, we can build a sustainable future for British Columbia’s water resources.
